The Concepción Fort protected the Lembra Gate and was used as a tram station from 1884 to 1904, year in which it was destroyed by a fire. It is located in the limits of the Colonial City, beside the Independence Park.

The fort was built in 1678 and, as a result of its construction, the fortification of the city was resumed. Built in stone (even the cannons), the parapet was raised as a wall with a wide ramp of access in the center, stands for soldiers and huts.

The design of the fortress was done by the Italian military engineer J.B. Ruggero when he was serving the king of Spain in 1672.
