Generalísimo Máximo Gómez and José Martí House Museum is located in Montecristi, in the Dominican Republic. There, Máximo Gómez together with José Martí and other compatriots declared Cuba’s Independence in a document called Manifiesto de Montecristi.

Máximo Gómez was a general, who participated in the country’s battles for the independence. In the above mentioned manifesto, he wrote the different measures to carry on Cuba’s Independence War, although he was Dominican.   

This manifesto was signed in 1895. This house welcomes people all over the world, and here, they learn the importance of that historical moment.

The house has wooden walls and a gable roof. The walls are painted in blue and the window’s frames are white. It is decorated with a Cuban flag and different Cuban objects. This is a place full of Cuban history.
