Loma Quita Espuela scientific reserve is one of the Dominican Republic’s most appreciated and important ecological areas. This reserve covers over 72.5 square kilometres of the country’s inner region and it stands out for being the area where more than 70 rivers spring from. and for having the septentrional mountain chain’s highest peak, from which the reserve takes its name, Loma Quita Espuela peak, which is 985 metres high.

This nature reserve is an authentic ecological jewel. Its lush cloud forest surrounded by an almost permanent fog, and its hundred-year-old trees covered with lichen and moss gave it a tropical and wild look.

If you finally visit this reserve, you will be able to realise diverse activities whilst you enjoy pure nature. Plant and bird-watching is one of the reserve’s most appreciated activities, since it has a large local plant and animal biodiversity. You can also try creole cuisine in the restaurant that is inside the reserve, and even lodge in Rancho Don Lulú, which is a small estate managed by a family that lives in the reserve and hosts visitors. Other attractive features of this reserve are its two hiking trails that traverse the reserve and that let you discover it wholly. The Cloud Path leads the visitor to the Loma Quita Espuela peak, but it must be taken into account that this is a hard track, nevertheless, it is worth the effort, since once you are on the top of the peak, the views to the Cibao Valley are completely amazing. The other path is known as Montecito Don Sorón Path, and it goes deep into the lush woods, for visiting the fabulous natural spas and river springs where you can bath into crystal clear water.
