Obelisco Hembra, Santo Domingo
See the imposing and modern building constructed in the central point of the George Washington Avenue.
Obelisco Hembra
© Do Anh VuThe well-known ‘Female Obelisk’ (Obelisco Hembra), called this way to distinguish it from the ‘Male Obelisk’, is made by two monoliths. It was erected in 1947 to celebrate both the end of the debt with the US and the wished economical independence.
It was constructed using white stone, but this simple monument has a huge meaning for the inhabitants of the island.
