Cathedral of Puerto Plata is a must-see in Puerto Plata. This majestic building is located near Central Park, and it confers a special and beautiful atmosphere to the area.

It was founded in 1502, but in 1863 it was completely destroyed due to an intentional fire. It was not until 1956 when it was completely restored, and finally, in 2008 it was reshaped. For the locals, this cathedral has a great religious value, and it is the most important pilgrimage point in the Dominican Republic.

This building is quite striking, because its has two big towers which give it an impressive aspect. In the inside, there are twelve huge columns, each one represents an Apostle.

Other attractions of this cathedral are its religious stained glass windows, in which biblical passages are represented: the life of Jesus Christ, the Passion of Christ and the Adoration of the Magi. However, the most important is one that represents Christ’s ascension.
