The Pirámide Ciclópea (Colossal Pyramid) is located in the middle of the central mountain range, inside Valle Nuevo National Park. This pyramid is divided into four identical sections, four huge multifaceted stones that were carved by Spanish artisans.

Inaugurated in 1958, its location is considered to be the geographic centre of the Dominican Republic. Its designer, architect Julio Hernández Santelises, declared that the  pyramid was built in honour of the dictator Rafael Trujillo, because he was who ordered the construction of the road San José de Ocoa - Constanza. The site where the pyramid is located marks the frontier between those two towns.

The site where this symbolic monument is located is known as “La Nevera” (The Fridge) due to the cool temperatures that usually characterise that area.
