With an average depth of 1.40 meters to 2 meters, the bottom of the lagoons is mostly muddy, composed of a mangle area towards the sides and lots of organic matter.

Laguna Redonda has an outlet to the sea called Caño Celedonio, causing its waters to be salty, whereas those in Laguna Limón are fresh.

The closest town to the lagoons is Miches, 17 and 27 kilometers away. Between both lagoons, you can visit Playa Limón, 20 kilometers from Miches, which is three-kilometer long and it's surrounded by coconut trees. Due to its unique location, it is usually deserted which makes it an ideal place to enjoy a secluded beach. Nevertheless, some horseback riding groups tend to stop there at some point in the day, around noon.
