At the entrance of the island, the documents vary depending on the tourist’s home country.

On the first place, it is indispensable to have a valid passport. Regarding foreigners who can legally enter in Great Britain, the European Union, Canada or the US they have the chance to enter the Dominican Republic with the passport and the Tourist Card.

The Tourist Card is a document which can be obtained in the same airport or in every port at the entrance of the country; in the Dominican embassies or, occasionally, it is included in the price of the holiday scheme offered by the travels agency. It has a standard value of 10 US$ or 10€, depending on the currency, with a value for a year since the moment of its issue and will allow you to stay for 30 days. You can use it just once, then if you want to lengthen your stay for a few day there is a little surcharge and if it will be for more than two months, it can be requested an extension.

This card is a tax established by the country for those who visit it and, therefore, only people who travel for tourism purposes can use it.

On the other side, the Dominican Republic issues different types of visas depending on the target of the visitor. This means, there is a Business Visa, Students Visa, Tourist Visa (with validity for 60 days); Residence Visa, etc. Each one with some requirements and rates you have to ask for in the embassy of the Dominican Republic located in your country

Exempt from the payment of the Tourist Visa are the travellers from Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay, Israel, Japan and South Korea as well as the residents, Dominican endorsed and nationalized.

On the other hand, those who arriving with their own aviation always have to fulfill some requirements: the plane cannot neither weight more than 30,000 pounds nor have a superior capacity of 12 passengers while the aim of the trip can be amusement, business, tourism or to play sports.

In the case of other Latin American nationalities such as Cuba, Panama or Colombia, it is required a visa to enter in the Dominican Republic.

The most advisable is to consult the embassy before traveling and known in detail the needed documents.
