Discovering the Dominican Republic by bike is one of the most unique and unforgettable experiences possible. But it must be taken into account some recommendations: generally, it is not advisable to ride a bike near the big, main cities, nevertheless, it is highly recommendable to do it at rural, mountainous tracks, since they are low-trafficked and the journey will be more delightful.

You should know that the roads are usually dangerous: they are high-trafficked, full of potholes and drivers do not respect cyclists.

There are not many places where you can hire a bike, so it is better to bring your own bicycle. Nevertheless, in the most touristic areas, some hotels and resorts offer this service, as in Las Terrenas and Las Galeras.

There are lots of bike tours, but the best ones are those at Jarabacoa and Cabarete.
