Dominican Republic Currency

The Dominican Republic has its own currency, the Dominican Peso (RD$) which is split in 100 cents.

For the coin exchange you will have coins of 25 and 50 cents, which are barely used; and of 1 and 5 pesos. Regarding the notes, there are of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 pesos. You can also used the US dollar as second coin, since it is admitted in every establishment for tourists. Furthermore, the US dollar as the Euros, can be changed into pesos in every bank, exchange house and in many hotels.

Accepted credit cards and traveller’s checks:

Regarding the Visa or Mastercard credit cards and the traveller’s checks, both are accepted in the majority of the establishments; but in the case of the cards you have to be careful to avoid that they will be used in a fraudulent way, by duplication or by copying the number.
